Rumours that Aberdeenshire Council are poised to introduce parking charges in further areas of Stonehaven have been dismissed.

Rumour began to spread on Wednesday online, with a claim that the local authority were preparing to introduce parking charges in areas of Stonehaven that are currently free, including the Leisure Centre, beachfront, and harbour areas.

Local residents were understandably concerned, and many raised objections about the negative effects such a scheme would have on tourists visiting the town.

However, a representative from Aberdeenshire Council today confirmed that the rumours are unfounded, commenting: “there are no plans currently to introduce pay and display in the free areas, current free areas being those at Beach Promenande or the car park at the harbour.”
