A Stonehaven woman has told of her ambition to head to Nepal to help build educational facilities in the country.

Lisa Rodgers is trying to raise £2000 to go to Nepal so she can help build an education centre.

The second year politics and International Relations student along with others from the University of Aberdeen will head out in June to take part in ‘The Big Build Nepal.’

The Big Build is through the charity ChildReach International. Childreach International works in partnership with local communities in the developing world to secure children’s most basic rights. They help children learn in a good school, stay healthy and most importantly, keep safe.

In Nepal there is a severe lack of educational facilities for pre-school-aged children, which can severely hinder their development, as 85% of a child’s development happens before the age of 5.

The 19 year old has told the Mearns Leader what she will do when she heads across in June: “What I will have to do when I am in Nepal is actually help personally build this education centre.

“I will be living for two weeks in a village called Sankhau, and it’s going to be full hands on work, but the good thing about it is I’ll actually get to see the difference I’m helping to make.

“It is a self-funded project, and the money raised will go towards the building materials for this centre. “
