Taste of Grampian launch

The two celebrity chefs who will be starring at this year’s Taste of Grampian food festival have been revealed.

Simon Rimmer and Jean-Christophe Novelli are both making return visits to the annual celebration of the north-east’s rich and diverse food and drink larder.

The event, which this year celebrates its 12th anniversary, is being held at Inverurie’s Thainstone Centre on Saturday, June 4.

Taste of Grampian steering committee member Alan Craig, the chief executive of event hosts, the ANM Group, launched the 2011 Taste of Grampian at the Grampian Food Forum Dining Club in Aberdeen’s Rox Hotel.

He said the dinner at the club event had again provided a first-class demonstration of the excellent produce Grampian had on its doorstep.

“We are again hoping for an excellent day in which the focus will be on celebrating Grampian’s all-important food industry and sharing its many marvellous delights with the north-east public.”

Aberdeenshire Council head of economic development Belinda Miller said: “Taste of Grampian is now in its twelfth year. Its focus is on telling consumers about the richness and diversity of the north-east’s food larder.

“It has become an important event in the annual calendar for Grampian’s food businesses, many of whom now use it as the launch pad for innovative new products.”

Taste of Grampian steering group chairman Brian Pack is looking forward to the return of both chefs. Mr Rimmer attended Taste of Grampian in 2008 and Mr Novelli in 2009.

Mr Pack said: “Both were extremely popular with the crowd. We hope they will tantalise the taste buds of the thousands who annually flock to Taste of Grampian.

“We will again be sticking to our core principles of letting the north-east public taste and sample the very diverse range of food and drink produced in the region as well as buy it from the many food firms who support us by taking stands to display their full range of wares.

“We are again hoping for an excellent day in which the focus will be on celebrating Grampian’s all-important food industry and sharing that with the north-east public.”

The two chefs will each give demonstrations during the day. As ever, they will round off the event with a cooking duel in the style of the BBC’s Ready Steady Cook.

Both are TV regulars. Mr Rimmer presents Something for the Weekend on BBC2 and the Great British Menu. Mr Novelli has appeared on many TV and radio broadcasts as well as running his world-renowned cookery school at Tea Green in Hertfordshire.

Taste of Grampian, which has in recent years drawn a crowd in excess of 10,000 and become Scotland’s biggest one-day food festival, also features a schools cookery competition, demonstrations by the winners of this year’s Grampian Chef of Year competition and cookery shows by the Two Fat Laddies, – local chefs Sandy Greig and Robert Bruce.

There is wine tasting too. There will be educational marquee for children. A veritable feast of entertainment is also planned in the form of fiddlers, dancers, magicians and performances by Inverurie Pipe Band.
