LOCAL playwright and long standing Stonehaven Ury Players member Russell Adams has won an award for his playwriting skills.
The Scott Salver was presented to Russell at the Scottish Finals of the Scottish Community Drama Association (SCDA) One Act play festival at Eden Court Theatre in Inverness on Saturday May 7. The award is given to the best original play in the festival, and this is the second time that Russell has had the honour of receiving it. The play – “The Last Piece” – was performed at the Aberdeen district round in February. Although disappointed the play did not get through to the next round, Russell was delighted to receive the Salver. He has written scores of plays over the years, many of which have been performed at this annual festival. SCDA patron and veteran actor Richard Wilson attended the Finals and was on hand to congratulate all the winners. “The Last Piece” will be performed again as part of the Ury Players summer production - An evening with the Ury Players. This takes place on Thursday June 9 in Stonehaven Town Hall at 7:30pm. The youth entry to the same festival, “A Train Ride Away”, will also be performed, as well as another One Act play by the junior members of the group. The hall will be set out cabaret style, so attendees can bring their own refreshments if they wish. Balcony seating will be available as normal. Tickets are £5 and are available from the Rose Bowl, Barclay Street, Stonehaven, or on the door on the night.
