The Laurencekirk Gala may not be taking place until July, but already wheels are in motion and the hard work has commenced.

But those behind the popular annual event - a highlight in the Mearns calendar - have said that they “desperately” need more volunteers to come forward to ensure that the event is pulled off without a hitch.

The Laurencekirk Gala committee posted a plea for volunteers on their Facebook page, saying: “We desperately need more willing hands for Laurencekirk Gala Week. Can you spare some time to put something back into your community? You don’t have to come to the committee meetings if you are not inclined to do so - though we hold them at the Alma Indian Restaurant and thoroughly enjoy the benefits of being there!

“We need people (of all ages) who can do one, some, or all of the following: sell raffle tickets, deliver leaflets, bake, man a stall on Gala day, help steward events during Gala week and/or on Gala Day, help set up the beer tent on Friday, July 17 (or take it down on Sunday 19!), help run events (kids activities, bingo etcetera).”

Gala week runs from Sunday to Sunday, July 12 - 19 inclusive.

They added: “Without ‘feet on the ground’ the Gala cannot run properly. Many hands make light work as they say! If you can help please email us at laurencekirk.gala@yahoo.com.

“Together we can make Laurencekirk Gala Week 2015 one to remember!”
