Royal Burgh of Inverbervie Community Council, May 2015

Another busy meeting of the Royal Burgh of Inverbervie Community Council this month.

Colville Laird of the Sandpiper Trust - a charity involved in supplying defibrillators and providing the relevant training – spoke about the need for a fast response to heart attack victims. The critical time is 8 minutes, if the life is to be saved, much sooner than any ambulance can respond in our rural area. With this as our motive, the communities of Inverbervie and Gourdon are looking to start up a First Responders Unit to provide immediate help to local emergency cases. To this end, we need volunteers and are holding a public meeting on Monday June 1 at 7:30pm. We have also set up a Facebook page to help keep you informed.

The ongoing problem of litter was also raised, with the beach car park highlighted. It has been noted that people have been spotted emptying rubbish and cigarette ends from their cars, but onto the ground, not into the bins. The new play park in Church Street is also badly affected by litter, despite Bervie Playparks committee members and some parents regularly tidying up. Both these areas have been fairly recently done up and I’m sure all residents would appreciate it if we could keep these and the rest of the Royal Burgh in a decent state, by not dropping litter and picking up after your dogs.

May is also the month when we hold our AGM. This year our long-standing treasurer, Irene Gilchrist, stepped down from both her role and the Community Council. We express our thanks to Irene for her service. Robert Fergusson has kindly stepped up to take on the Treasurer role. Other positions remain unchanged with Neil Paterson as Chair, David Wills as Vice-Chair and Moira Smith as Secretary. We currently have 9 Community Councillors, out of a maximum of 12, so we have vacancies for 3 new members. Membership is open to all Inverbervie residents or business owners aged 18 or over. Our meetings are on the second Monday of every month (except January and July) at 7:30pm in the Burgh Chambers in Church Street. Our next meeting is Monday 8th June. All welcome.

Bervie First Responders

Bervie First Responders are being set up inn connection with The Sandpiper Trust, they are looking for people who are interested in being involved with a First Responders group.

Sandy Wilson, Manager of Castle Lodge, Kirkburn, Inverbervie in conjunction with the sandpiper trust is looking for volunteers to train as First Responders who would be working alongside with the emergency services to enable fast effective help to victims of accidents or medical emergencies in our community.

The first responder will be trained in the use of a defibrillator and cardio pulmonary resuscitation and the training will be ongoing. The aim is to improve the pre-hospital care in our rural communities.
