Regeneration of one of the rooms in Stonehaven Community Centre is on track to be carried out by the end of the financial year, creating a permanent space in the town for young people to go and spend time.
At their meeting on Tuesday night, Stonehaven and District Community Council heard from Claire Thompson from the Stonehaven Community Learning and Development team who explained that £50,000 had been secured to allow a room in the community centre to be done up and made suitable for use as a youth room.
Forty thousand pounds of the money given to the project came from planning gain.
There are plans for the room to be used in the evenings as a place that youths can go and spend time, in a safe environment.
At a previous meeting SDCC identified that a lack of places for young people to spend time in Stonehaven was an issue within the town. The active Hub in Stonehaven is popular on a Friday night however the rest of the week youths are left with nowhere to go. With funding now in place work will begin in the room and Claire Thompson explained that there were plans to have work completed by the end of the financial year.
