COWIE faced Alford at home on a very wet night knowing that victory would see them leapfrog their nearest rivals in the league into second place.
Cowie adapted quickly to the slippery conditions and were passing the ball around with real confidence making the visitors work hard to get a touch of the ball.
Cahill had two good early chances to give Cowie the lead.
His first effort was struck
perfectly but went wide of the post, and his second one on one with the keeper was blocked.
McCoy was next to try his luck but again he shot went wide of the mark. With Cowie dominating the game Hudson then broke free from midfield and needed no encouragement to unleash an unstoppable drive which cleared the keeper but came crashing back off the crossbar just beyond the path of Leith who was unlucky not to make contact.
Cowie's first goal came as a result of good passing and movement which released McCoy down the right.
He picked out CAHILL at the near post who fired the ball into the net. The same player doubled Cowie's lead minutes later from close range. MCCOY put the match beyond doubt with 30 minutes played as he slotted the ball passed the advancing keeper into the far corner.
Injuries to Cahill and Davidson forced Cowie to make changes at half time but the second period followed the same pattern of play.
Cowie created countless chances but a combination of poor finishing and heavy pitch conditions saw the game finish without further goals.
Cowie have now gone on a nine game winning run which has seen them take maximum league points in 2008 and secure a league cup final place.
