THREE Banchory Stonehaven Athletic Club Members claimed medals at the Scottish schools track and field championships at Grangemouth last Friday and Saturday.
Kathryn Christie representing Aboyne Academy repeated her double gold medal success of last year when she again triumphed in the 100 and 200metres sprints in the 14/15year old section.
Kathryn had a fairly comfortable win in the 200 final on Friday
after winning her heat and came home in first place in a time of 25.79 just outside her pb.
The 100m was a lot closer between Kathryn and her competitor from Fife. Both girls won their respective heats to set up a tense final. However the Finzean girl's determination pulled her through to win her second gold medal in a new pb and club record time of 12.42sec.
Michael Ferguson of Stonehaven representing Mackie Academy continued his tremendous start to the season in the 1500m on Saturday in a terrific race.
Competing in the 14/15 age group Michael set a fast pace from the start and led all the way until the home straight when a sprint finish developed with Michael and a lad from Belmont Academy in Ayrshire, Michael appeared to have just edged it but a photo finish placed Michael in silver medal place by a 100th of a second in a time of 4.19.82 which was a new pb by nearly 10 seconds and a new club record.
Ellie Workman representing Robert Gordon's College in the under 17 girls age group continued her amazingly consistent form to claim another three medals to add to her collection.
On Friday Ellie finished in second place with a javelin throw of 33.94m, just outside her pb, to clinch the silver medal. Ellie then followed this up on the Saturday with a gold medal in the High jump when she cleared a height of 1.65m. Finally the talented young athlete was just edged into second place in the long jump when she leapt a fine distance of 5.47m, a new pb and club record.
