A FRANTIC weekend of competition at Stonehaven Golf Club was blessed with some glorious weather and produced scoring as hot as the temperatures.
Club champion Neil Irvine scorched round in 63 to equal the best score of the season so far while David Cusiter, playing off 7, set a blistering pace in the Handicap Trophy leading the qualifiers after two rounds on net 120.
The two-round cut fell
at 132, the lowest for years, and the 24 qualifiers include a wide range of handicaps which should ensure a fascinating finale this Friday.
Despite the CSS being 64 on both Saturday and Sunday, some 20 players suffered handicap cuts.

It also proved a busy weekend for Stonehaven's junior golfers with matches in the Aberdeen & District Junior Pennant League.
The boys lost on Saturday at Kemnay - the top team in the league -- by four matches to two but then beat Auchmill at home on Sunday by six matches to nil.
Kemnay surprisingly lost to Northern on Sunday so Stonehaven still have a fighting chance of qualifying for the semi final stages, an excellent performance by a young and inexperienced team.
The crunch match will come on Sunday when Stonehaven play Northern at home. A win of any size for Stonehaven should mean qualification.
In the match against Kemnay, the sides were tied 2-2 after the first four matches with the last two pairs all square at the tricky par-3 last hole. Unfortunately, Stonehaven lost the hole in each match.
Stonehaven 2 Kemnay 4: Ross Anderson and Ross McAllan lost to Lewis Morgan and Grant Singer 5&3; Scott Murray and Kevin Riddell beat David Temple and Callum Holt 6&4; Craig Buchanan and Josh Halliday beat Gary Fowlie and Andrew Morrison 6&5; Craig Gordon and Sam Wright lost to Kiran Nolan and Iain Coull 3&2; James Duguid and Connor Douglas lost to Paul Stewart and Stuart Sproat 1 hole; Martin Starrs and Scott Duncan lost to Dean Lingard and Duncan McKenzie 1 hole.
Stonehaven 6 Auchmill 0: Ross Anderson and Ross McAllan beat Andy Bull and C Polson 2&1; Scott Murray and Kevin Riddell beat C Ewan and C Ord 4&3; Craig Buchanan and Josh Halliday beat K Mathers and J Gregor 1 hole; Craig Gordon and Grant Robb beat A Harkin and J Robertson 3&2; Sam Wright and Craig Duguid beat J Dickson and S Harkin 6&5; James Duguid and Connor Douglas beat Sean Coakins and C Brand 6&5.
