TO reflect the week's good weather there were a number of low scores over the Wednesday and Saturday competitions.
On Wednesday Iain Taylor produced the round of the year so far. With four birdies and no dropped shots his 62 was easily the best scratch score and also won him the best nett score of 56 in division 1. Commiserations go to John Wood whose gross 67 ne
tt 58 would probably have won on any other day but he can comfort himself in that he won the Bill Chalmers Putter for best senior score.
Wednesday Medal scores: Scratch 62 I Taylor; Division 1: 56 I Taylor (6); 58 J Wood (9); 61 R J Smith (8); 63 B Hunter (7), R Davidson (9); 64 A D Smith (10), J Barbour (5). On Saturday a field of 118 played for the McNab Trophy, a bogey competition whereby you are playing against the course. Clear winner was Neil Murray who finished 8 up on the course. Lately putting has been his main drawback but on Saturday he confined himself to only two three putts to win by two shots from a trio of players. Winner of the shot of the day was Ricky Davidson who, playing along with Ally Innes, aced the 7th hole using a nine iron for his first hole in one.
McNab Trophy : (CSS 64) +8 N Murray (16); +6 L Arandia (17), M Rollo (13), R Davidson (9); +5 A Pittendreigh (22), B Thain (14) , C Taylor (23), J Adam (21); +4 K Duguid (21), D Callaghan (10), I Wood (12), G M Reid (24).

Also on Saturday the juniors played in their stroke competition and scoring was excellent by most of the entrants. Best scratch score was 74 by Ross Anderson and best nett score was achieved by Craig Buchanan with a 55. Josh Halliday maintained his good form with a nett 56 and his handicap continues to tumble. Not to be outdone by Ricky Davidson in the men's competition, Ross McAllan achieved his first hole in one also at the 7th hole using a three wood.
Junior scores: (CSS 65) Scratch 74 Ross Anderson; Handicap: 55 Craig Buchanan (24); 56 Josh Halliday (19); 58 Sam Wright (30), Ross Anderson (16); 63 Craig Starrs (14), Ross McAllan (17); 64 Scott Murray (19); 66 Robbie Western (36); 68 Scott Duncan (28).
On Sunday the juniors played their third match in the Aberdeen and District Junior Pennant League away to Newburgh.
The first pairing of Alisdair Steel and Craig Starrs found it tough going against two low handicappers and in the end lost comfortably. Also in the last match Martin Starrs and Scott Duncan although up early on in their match found local knowledge too much of an advantage for their opponents and lost on the 14th hole. The other matches all proved close affairs. Fraser Stark and Ross Anderson only lost on the last green after being 4 down early on in their match. Ross McAllan (still on a high from his hole in one the previous day) and Scott Murray were always in control of their match and won at the 16th hole. Daryl Benton and Kevin Riddell had a comfortable lead in their match and were 4 up at one stage but were eventually pegged back and ended up all square. The final match proved an exciting affair. Greig Cooper and Connor Douglas were at one point 5 down but after winning 6 holes in a row to go 1 up eventually run out of steam and lost the 15th, 16th and 18th holes.
Overall it was very encouraging for the team to go away to a tough course and do so well.
Their next match is away to Hazlehead this Sunday.
Match results ( Newburgh names first) ; K Watson/S Sharp beat Alisdair Steel/Craig Starrs 7&5 ; R Macdonald/C Macdonald beat Fraser Stark/Ross Anderson 2up ; C Penny/R Riddell lost to Ross McAllan/Scott Murray 3&2 ; J Moir/M Clements drew with Daryl Benton/Kevin Riddell ; S Beattie/T Proctor beat Greig Cooper/Connor Douglas 2 up ; C Cheyne/L Cheyne beat Martin Starrs/Scott Duncan 5&4.
