STONEHAVEN Golf Club elected a new Captain last week when Sandy Walker was installed in the position at the club's annual general meeting.
He took over from Harry Roulston, who has been Captain for the last two years.
Nan Byars, a former Ladies' Captain, was elected Vice Captain.
Mr Walker has been a member of the club since 1984 and he was praised at the meeting by Mr Roulston for
doing a superb job as vice captain for the last two years.
The annual general meeting agreed to a proposal to offer 12 life memberships in a fund-raising move.
Denis Daun, a former Captain of the club, was voted back on to the ruling club council. Willie Donald, who retired as club secretary at the end of 2008, was also elected to the council, along with Ian Wood. Council members Gary Graham, Glennie Melvin, Kenny Duncan, Neil Irvine and Malcolm Ritchie were re-elected.
Other council members who retained their positions are Bob Leggate (honorary treasurer), Brian Lawson and Rose Riddell In his Captain's Report for 2009, Mr Roulston urged golf club members to become involved in the club's campaign to persuade Aberdeenshire Council to grant planning permission to the Stewart Milne Group for development of the club's land on the west side of the railway line.
A special general meeting of the club last November agreed in principle to sell the land to the Milne Group and acquire a field to the south of the current clubhouse. Four golf holes would be created there along with a new clubhouse.
Mr Roulston said: "Our whole deal with the Milne Group hinges on getting planning permission for our land and I would urge all members to do what they can to let their local councillors, their neighbours and anyone else interested locally know that this would be an excellent deal for the whole community of Stonehaven as well as for the golf club."
The club has already pledged that its proposed new clubhouse would be designed to allow other community organisations in Stonehaven to hold meetings and social events there.

WINTER League business resumed at the weekend with a reasonable turn-out of nearly 60 players but conditions were extremely wet underfoot and the greens very soft.
With six weekends left before the finals, and no players yet with the necessary ten scores, qualification for the final weekend looks like being a nail-biting business and the line-up for the March 13/14 finals will probably not be known until the week before.
Despite the difficult scoring conditions at the weekend, Ian Smith managed 40 points to lead in the singles while youngsters Iain Taylor and Stuart Soutar won the scratch doubles with a 63, three shots ahead of the field. Bert Droy and Ron Gilmour and Eric Innes and Jim Hepburn advanced their causes in the handicap section with net 59s.
