STONEHAVEN Tennis Club's competition season got off to a flying start on Sunday with both teams recording convincing wins in the Scottish Cup.
The ladies won 6–3 away to Banchory.
The team of Judith Jack, Jane Watson, Janette Garden, Jacqui Blackburn, Mandy Woodford and Jenny Hunter managed to dodge the April showers and maintain their focus to win a few tie-breaks to secure a victory.
The team will now play Cults in the semi-final at home on Sunday April 27 at 10am.
The men's Scottish Cup team drew David Lloyd Aberdeen for the first round.
This format involves three pairs for either team playing each of the couples, with every rubber counting to the overall result.
A good afternoon's tennis was enjoyed by onlookers, junior and senior members alike as Lloyd's brought down one of their big guns Bishop Osaui.
Their Nigerian-born coach and former world ranking player provided some really powerful tennis with many shots being simply unreturnable by the home side.
Nevertheless Stonehaven's improving young side produced wins against the weaker Lloyd's second and third pairings securing the victory 6-3.
The Stonehaven team consisted of: first couple Graeme Walker/David Hamilton, second couple Matthew Colvin/Alistair Cameron and third couple Daniel Colvin/Dale Harris.
