Aberdeenshire’s team of junior badminton players had a successful day on Saturday when they won the Primary Inter Area Triangular at Portlethen Academy.

This annual tournament is hosted in rotation between each of the three participating areas of Aberdeenshire, Moray and Aberdeen City.

Each area enters a team of four boys and four girls who play singles and doubles against the players from the other two area teams. The team who accumulates the most points wins the match.

The Aberdeenshire team consisted of pupils from Newtonhill, Mill O’ Forest Johnshaven and Dunnottar Primaries.

Joan Prieur Aberdeenshire Council Badminton Development Officer said: “The competition was hard fought with the players giving their all to accumulate points towards their team score. The standard of fair play was excellent with some of the players competing at this level for the first time.”
