The Aberdeen and Stonehaven Sailing Club held its annual regatta last weekend with generous sponsorship from the Bay Fish and Chip shop and support from Aberdeenshire Council.
The weather was excellent for sailing in Stonehaven Bay and there was close racing in all the fleets; this year the club also hosted a Junior sailing event with racing and coaching for the less experienced sailor. Some as young as 8 were sailing on their own for the first time in the North Sea swell!
Over 80 boats competed in 8 classes with people travelling from all over Scotland to come to Stonehaven. The onshore highlight of the weekend was a barbeque for everyone on Saturday evening where competition continued with more jostling for position, but this time for the hottest coals.
Five races in total were run and the results included: RS200 Class: 1 Robbie Burns and Victoria Simpson (Largs); 2 Graham and Vicki Tait (Stonehaven); 3 Chris Perry and Kirsty Lytton (Stonehaven).
Blaze Class: 1 Nick Miller (Morecombe & Heysham); 2 Bob Williamson (Stonehaven);
3 Martin Saveker.
Laser: 1 Pete Malcom (Largo Bay); 2 Niel Ritchie (Stonehaven); 3 Peter Tait (Forfar).
General Handicap: 1 Elspeth and Alan Fraser (Stonehaven); 2 Merv New and Steve Blackburn/Mark New (Stonehaven); 3 Malcom Garrington and Martin Thain (Peterhead).
The club expressed thanks to their sponsor, all the helpers and also the support from MRI and the Seacadets for the use of their RIBs.
