Bervie 14s hit double figures

Bervie went into this game looking to get back to winning ways after a disappointing opening game of the season.

Bervie got off to the perfect start when Blacklaw won a 50:50 ball in the middle of the pitch with the ball breaking to Avis, he fed Anderson who slotted home from just inside the box.

The second goal was not long in coming, Davies won the ball on the edge of the box, played it wide to Wotherspoon who played an inch perfect pass for the on rushing McLaughlin who coolly played the ball round the keeper and ran onto it and tapped in. Bervie kept up the pressure and continued to dominate the midfield winning two corners in quick succession, on both occasions Blacklaw’s corners were headed over by McLaughlin.

The third goal eventually came. Wotherspoon and Blacklaw combined on the left hand side with Wotherspoon following up on Blacklaw’s blocked effort to force the ball over the line.

The fourth followed shortly after, Smith played the ball down the right to McLaughlin, his effort came back off the post for Anderson to follow up and prod home.

There was just enough time before the whistle for one more effort, Huntly’s number 11 was booked for a bad challenge on Wotherspoon, allowing Blacklaw to test the keeper who saved well to push the ball over the bar.

Early in the second half a corner came across and Avis poked the ball home at the near post for Bervie’s fifth.

A quick throw by Smith on the right was flicked on by Karpinski to Blacklaw who played McLaughlin in for him to flick the ball home for Bervie’s sixth.

The seventh followed shortly after with Leisk clearing the ball to Karpinski in the middle of the pitch, he played the ball through to Anderson who strode on to slot home for his hat-trick.

Bervie kept the pressure up and were rewarded when Karpinski played the ball through to Blacklaw who timed his run perfectly to beat the offside trap and drive the ball home low.

Goal number nine came shortly after when Smith played the ball up the right hand side for Anderson to run onto and cross into the box, the keeper could only parry the ball to Wotherspoon who squared it for Thomson to slot home.

It was Thomson who set up Bervie’s tenth goal when his effort was parried by the keeper for Anderson to follow up for his fourth.

With around 15 minutes to go Bervie started to sit back allowing Huntly time on the ball for the first time in the game, keeper Leisk had to be alert when Huntly got in down the left and he did well to save with his legs.

Bervie went close to adding an eleventh when Blacklaw cut the ball back for Anderson who tee’d up Thomson who put his shot wide.

Huntly got a consolation with 5 minutes to go when the left sided midfielder got in to slot low past Leisk. The same player got in again shortly after and it took a great challenge from Davies to prevent him scoring again.

An excellent performance from Bervie who get their first points of the season, man of the match was Matthew Davies who put in a solid performance in the middle of the defence.
