Bervie beat local rivals in Scottish

Bervie 4

Newtonhill 3 (aet)

Following the previous week’s disappointment, Bervie U13s went into this Scottish Cup tie against their local rivals Newtonhill with a good record against them having beaten them twice the previous season.

Newtonhill started the game brightly, but slowly Bervie started to take control of the match.

Bervie’s pressure paid off when a pass from Blacklaw found McLaughlin who sprinted past a defender to finish neatly.

Bervie added a second when, McLaughlin played Karpinski in. His effort was blocked and McLaughlin followed up to stroke home.

Bervie were caught flat footed at the back by a long ball over the top which found a forward who reached the ball before Leisk allowing him to head home and bring Newtonhill back into the game.

Still reeling from conceding Karpinksi conceded a free kick, the ball was played long into the box and Leisk got caught under the ball and it drifted into the net to level the match.

With Bervie shell shocked having thrown a 2 goal lead away things were about to get worse. A long clearance bounced through and neither Davies or Leisk dealt with the ball and it broke to the forward leaving him an easy tap in.

The second half breakthrough came for Bervie as the game started to draw to a close, Blacklaw played a free-kick into the box and Webster flicked the ball on for McLaughlin to prod home the equaliser and complete his hat-trick.

Bervie almost got a winner right at the end of the game. A Blacklaws corner broke to Davies who hit an unstoppable effort goalward only for it to go just over.

Bervie started extra time on the front foot, and with both sides starting to think about penalties, Newtonhill played themselves into difficulty at the back and McLaughlin nipped in to lift the ball into the net from the tightest of angles to win the game for Bervie and seal a four goal man of the match performance.
