Bervie Caley U12 8
Mugiemoss Youth 2
Bervie were hoping to keep their recent run of good form going with a home match against Mugiemoss who had added a few new players since the last time they played.
Mugiemoss kicked off and pushed from the start creating chances, forcing the midfield back and there were some close calls early on. Bervie rode out the storm and started to get into the game creating a few chances themselves. Eventually on 15 minutes Morris who was back working in midfield collected a short pass then laid the ball out to Wotherspoon on the right who rode a tackle then bore down on goal and shot past the keeper.
Mugiemoss replied within a minute with a similar goal from the right. This was a wakeup call for the Bervie players, they couldn’t afford to be careless in midfield or they would get punished. Bervie started to dominate with some very good play. A goal came in 22 minutes with Morris again the provider with a lovely weighted through ball to Anderson, who took a touch then rifled it past the advancing goalie.
Bervie kept pushing and within 2 minutes had scored again. A cross from Wotherspoon caused panic and the ball was eventually scrambled across the line by Blacklaw.
The Bervie players were advised at half-time that this game was in the balance and had to be closed out and they scored within 3 minutes. Wotherspoon passed to Blacklaw in space just outside the box, his shot was parried by the goalie but Smith quickly followed up to score.
Bervie scored three goals in four minutes around the 40 minute mark. The first was when the goalie had to rush out of his box to clear, but only cleared as far as Blacklaw who shot into an unmanned goal.
The next goal was from a Blacklaw shot that crashed off the bar. Jayden McLaughlin was first to react heading the ball in from 2 yards.
The next was again from a goalie clearance which was collected by Joseph McLaughlin. He shrugged off a couple of challenges and hit an unstoppable shot from the edge of the box.
In a rare foray forward Mugiemoss got a free kick just outside the box, which dropped at the far post and was fired in from a narrow angle for a consolation goal. Bervie scored again in 53 minutes when Wood crossed from the left and Blacklaw took a few strides forward past a defender then hit a low shot past the goalie for his hat-trick.
Another good win for Bervie who seemed to score at just the right times in what could have been a closer match. There were a few very good performances again but man of the match this week went to Blacklaw, setting up some good strikes then also scoring his fourth hat-trick in three games.
Goals are being scored in recent games and from various players which is in itself very satisfying.
