Bervie exit cup quarter-final

The pitch at Gourdon was playable on Saturday, as Bervie Caley managed to beat the freeze and host Dee Amateurs in the quarter-final of the Dickie Trophy.

Dee Amateurs started the game at a very high tempo and it took Bervie 10 minutes to get a foothold. Once the game settled down, two evenly matched teams probed at each other, with both goalkeepers being rarely tested.

Bervie went close to scoring when the Dee keeper saved well from Cerretti. Dee took the lead with the last kick of the first half when Bervie conceded a free-kick on the edge of the box which was expertly fired home off the post with Duncan rooted to the spot.

Bervie started the second half sluggishly and it took several good saves from Duncan to keep them in the game. Dee went two up after half an hour when a long ball from defence evaded three Bervie defenders and was fired home.

Dee were reduced to 10 men 10 minutes later when a defender was shown a straight red for an over the top tackle on Mackenzie. Bervie started to press the Dee defence back and spurned chances although they did get a goal back in the final minute when Mackenzie fired home after an excellent through ball from Mennie.

With Bervie now out of all the cup competitions, they will have to concentrate on picking up as many league points as possible and making a push for promotion.
