BLACK BELT ACADEMY OPENS IN STONEHAVEN

STONEHAVEN residents can kickstart their summer this year with a little help from a former bodyguard of Mohamed Al Fayed.

Lee Sansum, who worked as Mr Al Fayed's bodyguard for five years, has set up a branch of his Black Belt Academy in the town, with local man and Sansum graduate Malcolm Evans at the helm. The first classes were held last Monday.

Mr Sansum, who attended the opening session, said: "We have been looking forward to coming to Aberdeenshire for many years now. We met Malcolm almost four years ago and he said right from the start that he was keen to get into instructing.

"It is great to come to Stonehaven and set up a school here, as most of our classes are to the north of Aberdeen and it would be great to see our first Scottish champions coming out of Aberdeenshire."

There are over 12 SBBA schools across Scotland, with almost 600 students attending classes.

Mr Evans said: "This is my first venture into instructing and I'm looking forward to getting the classes underway, building the school up and progressing it here as part of the community for years to come.

"I would be keen to get involved with local schools, community groups or businesses who want an insight into self-defence."

Mr Evans also said that if student numbers are good, he would look towards getting a full-time studio in Stonehaven.

Organisational Director Kate Sansum said: "The great thing about this sport is that we can cater for pretty much any shape, size age or individual. We want people just to be the best that they can be."
