Callaghan team wins scramble

stonehaven Golf Club held an early season Open Texas Scramble on Saturday and an excellent 40 teams took part in glorious weather.

Winners on the day were former captain, David Callaghan and his team who returned a gross score of 51 which comprised of 13 birdies and an eagle at the 10th hole. They also took first prize in the 2’s competition with a total of five. This gave them a 2.2 winning margin over a team from Aberdeen.

Leading scores: Frank McCarron, Alan Cruickshank, David Callaghan, Brian Lawson (2.2) - 48.8, S Parker, P Young, K Ingram, E MacCallum (3) - 51, S Spence, J Gregor, A Mason, P Jamieson (5), Neil Irvine, Gordon Adamson, Harry Roulston, Glen Melvin (2),Gary Brown, Bob Leggate, Hans Kakabeeke, Simon Lloyd (6) - 52.

On Thursday Stonehaven played their second match in the Deeside League at home against Banchory. After an excellent 6-0 win against Braemar they were in confident mood but came up against a strong Banchory team. Five out of the six matches went to at least the 17th hole but regretfully Banchory came out on top in four of the matches to two for Stonehaven.

On Sunday the juniors played their fourth pennant match at home against Auchmill. Despite both teams only being able to muster 10 players there were a number of keenly fought matches. On this occasion Auchmill were successful 3.5-2.5. Their final match is on Sunday away to Oldmeldrum.

Last week while playing in a RBS doubles match Raymond Penny had a hole in one at the 159 yard 8th hole using a 5 iron. His playing partners were Steve Winstanley, John Lawson and Stuart Campbell. It was Raymond’s 16th ace.
