IN one of only two Aberdeenshire Amateur games to beat the freeze on Saturday, Cove Thistle outgunned Cammachmore to reach the third round of the North of Scotland Cup.

Cove Thistle had burst pipes and a flooded dressing room overnight but managed to get repairs done before kick off. Referee Hudson inspected the ground and gave the thumbs up for the game to go on.

Cove who are top of Division One East, in the end proved to be too strong for Third Division Cammachmore.

Cove’s first chance came in sixteen minutes when Esson’s shot was stopped by keeper Leslie’s foot. The ball rebounded to Esson whose shot hit the bar and went over.

Two minutes later Cove’s Stewart saw his shot hit the post before being cleared.

Esson made another run down the left and crossed to Stewart whose header was pushed for a corner by keeper Leslie. From the corner Cove’s Craig Strachan gave Leslie no chance with a drive from eight yards.

In twenty six minutes Cammachmore levelled the score when Ian Smith blasted in a right foot shot.

Six minutes later Cove were awarded a penalty when keeper Leslie pulled down Esson in the box and Craig Wilson converted from the spot.

From the restart a move by Cammachmore’s Ian Smith and Simpson found Ryan Causby whose shot beat keeper Greig to tie the score at 2-2.

Cove took the lead again five minutes before half time when Marc Stewart sidefooted the ball past keeper Leslie. A minute later, Craig Wilson made it 4-2 with a shot from close range.

Five minutes into the second period Cammachmore’s Hadingham made a great run through the middle beating three men only to see his shot saved at the second attempt by keeper Greig.

Cove’s Wilson had a chance when he tried to chip Leslie but the keeper got a hand to the ball sending it for a corner.

Cove were now well in command of the game and Martin Craig made it 5-2 with a shot from seven yards.

Edward Esson added another goal for Cove making the score 6-2 and chalked up Cove’s 100th goal in all competitions this season.

Just on full-time Causby scored his second making the final score 6-3.
