Clippers edged out by Cove

Cove BC 6

Bervie Clippers U12 4

Bervie Caley Clippers started this match on Sunday with three regular players missing, but had two new players added to the squad, which will be required as they move up to 11 a side football.

The match started with Cove gaining the upper hand as a couple of Bervie players were settling into unknown positions and they scored from a corner which was not cleared because of the uncertainty in the Bervie defence.

After the goal Bervie got into the game and there were chances at both ends, but after the first 20 minutes it was 1-0 to Cove.

it was a very hot morning and Bervie made some changes for the second 20 minutes and pushed for the equalising goal. The goals came at the other end, one from a disputed free-kick which wasn’t cleared and the other a header from a corner.

A couple of players were changed to put on some fresh legs and Bervie got the lift they required with three goals in 10 minutes. The first was a Campbell run past three players from midfield with an unstoppable drive, the next from Mowatt at the back post from a McLaughlin cross. The next was from McLaughlin who played a 1–2 with Farquhar and cut the ball across the goal to get Bervie back on level terms.

As Bervie were pushing for another goal a gap appeared in midfield which Cove capitalised on and scored to make it 4–3 after 40 minutes.

Bervie put on the last of their subs for the final 20 minutes but were unable to maintain the pressure they had in the middle period due to the tiring legs in the heat thus Cove scored another two goals, one again from a corner that was not cleared after three attempts, definitely something that requires to be worked on in training.

But Bervie were not finished and lifted their game and pushed once more and got a fourth goal when McLaughlin linked with Campbell then scored at the near post. Bervie then started to dominate as Cove tired and they had a few chances but the Cove goalie and central defenders were in good form plus the post helped on a couple of occasions.

Overall a good performance at times in a difficult heat. Bervie just require to tighten up in defence a little bit, but some very good goals were scored from open play with passing movements from defence which is encouraging and good to watch.
