Craig wins Marie Curie

It was a busy weekend at Stonehaven Golf Club with a competition on Saturday, a scramble open on Sunday and two doubles finals played. On Saturday Craig McKechnie added to his trophy cabinet. After winning the J M Adamson trophy with partner Bruce Ferguson back in June, his 43 stableford points was good enough to win the Marie Curie Shield by 2 points from Frank Urquhart. Competitions Convener Brian Lawson was third on 38 points. There were 9 players with 37 points.

On Sunday 23 teams turned up to play in the Neil Selbie & Co Texas Scramble. New social convener, Eric Innes and his team had a gross score of 55 nett 51.8 to win the competition by 0.9 from Michael Wood’s team. Thanks go to Neil Selbie & Co for their continued sponsorship of this event.

On Saturday the Royal Bank doubles competition was completed and Paul Lindeman and his partner Mike Gaskin overcame Graeme Nicol and Richard Gordon in the final.

The final of the Freeland Family Foursomes was also completed on Sunday and James and Luis Arandia beat Liam and Ricky Davidson by 1 hole.

Also on Sunday junior champion Ross Anderson played in the qualifying rounds of the Spence Trophy - a competition for all junior champions in the North East. With rounds of 77 and 76 at Peterculter, Ross finished in the top four and goes on to play in the knockout stages at Peterculter on October 9.

A junior team have also qualified to play in the Home Nations Inter-club Championship Scotland Final at Cardrona Golf Club, Peebles on October 3. The team will consist of Kevin Riddell, Josh Halliday, Ross McAllan, Grant Robb, Connor Douglas and Kiefer Brown. The club wish them well.

Bar Manager Brenda Gowans is taking names for the Men’s prizegiving evening on the November 19. Guest speaker will be Aberdeen Manager, Craig Brown.
