DELIGHT AS MACKIE END SEASON WITH TOURNEY WIN

SUNDAY saw a mixed Mackie P4/5 squad brave the torrential rain and make the trip north to take part in the Banff Rugby Tournament.

Competing this year were Mackie, Huntly A, Huntly B, Banff and a Harlequin Team. The rain had made the pitches and ball very wet and the team with the best handling would be the more likely to come out on top.

A round robin format was agreed and the action started quickly to get the cold and wet kids moving around. First up for the reds was Huntly A, a team well known to Mackie.

Huntly won the toss and the game kicked off. The strong Mackie team soon turned the ball over and took the game to Huntly, eventually running out easy winners.

Next up were the Harlequin team, who won the toss. Tough tenacious tackling from the reds was the order of the day and the opposition was soon on the back foot - once Mackie had the upper hand there was no stopping them and again they ran out winners.

Huntly B were the next opponents and proved to be a tough test for the reds. Mackie kicked off and were soon having to defend deep in their own half, while strong running and good rucking soon gave Huntly a score. Mackie had to dig deep and dig deep they did, succeeding in driving the ball over the line to score. One last play and the referee blew for full time. A hard fought draw.

Last of the group games was against host team Banff. Banff started and their game plan soon became evident - crash rugby through the middle. Mackie soon got a grip of this and started passing the ball out to the wings where they ran in four unopposed tries.

The delighted Mackie team ended the season on a high with a well deserved win.

P4/5 Squad: Iwan, Zander, Luke, Rhurie, Fraser, Eoin, Marco, Reece, Connor, Ethan.
