DEREK WINS TIE ON COUNTBACK

THERE was a two way tie at the top of the leader board on Saturday with Derek Seery and Gordon Lamont fighting for the McNab Trophy.

Derek was successful on countback with a better inward half. This was a bogey competition with everyone playing against the course. Derek and Gordon finished +3 up on the course.

Junior Stroke scores (CSS 65) - Class 1 Connor Douglas (14) - 60, Kevin Riddell (11) - 62, Scott Murray (8) - 64, Josh Halliday (13) - 66, Grant Robb (13) - 75. Class 2 - Mark McIntosh (33) - 57, Mason Jenkins (28) - 64, Lewis Mitchell (36) - 134.

It was a busy weekend for the junior pennant team with an away tie at Alford on Saturday and an away tie at Craibstone on Sunday. The Alford tie proved to be very competitive.

First pairing of Ross Anderson and Ross McAllan had to battle for a 2 hole victory after being behind early on in their match. Scott Murray and Kevin Riddell were always behind in their match and eventually lost 4 & 3.

The third match finished all square with Josh Halliday and Grant Robb being ahead for most of their match - Alford sank a long putt on the last green to sneak a draw.

Connor Douglas and Sam Wright were always in control in their match and finished comfortable 4 & 2 winners.Craig Gordon and Scott Duncan came up against a nineteen handicapper who was only 2 over par when their match finished on the 12th green giving them an 8 & 6 defeat.

The strong pairing of Martin Starrs and Cameron Davidson maintained their 100% record by winning 7 & 6. Result Alford 2.5 Stonehaven 3.5.

The Craibstone match was a bit more one sided with the home side only being able to field seven players. The top match was a very even affair with the match going all the way to the 18th green. Ross Anderson and Ross McAllan were very unlucky to lose out by 1 hole.

Scott Murray and Kevin Riddell won by 6 & 5, Grant Robb and Josh Halliday won by 3 & 2 and Connor Douglas and Sam Wright won by 5 & 4.

The pairings of Craig Gordon & Scott Duncan and Martin Starrs & Cameron Davidson were successful without playing so the final result was Craibstone 1 Stonehaven 5. Their final league match is on Sunday at home against Peterculter.

Also on Sunday Stonehaven played host to Braemar in the Deeside League. After a shaky start from the first two pairings Stonehaven powered home in the other matches to win 4 - 2 overall.

Results - Iain Taylor & Chris Taylor lost to G Mitchell & M Holley 1 down, Gary Graham & Brian Lawson lost to M Moir & N Walker 3 & 2, Alan Officer & Doug Lorimer beat J Kinsella & C Snape 1 up, Alan Cruickshank & Jacek Nowak beat B Huyton & D Marshall 6 & 5, Eric Innes & Jim Hepburn beat M Holley & M Pirie 3 & 2 and finally Mark Rollo & Graham Garden beat B Wilkie & E McHardy 1 up.
