Featherweight king

MEARNS boxer James Ancliff has won his second Scottish professional title.

James took the Scottish Featherweight (9st) belt when he stopped the previously undefeated Jason Hastie in Glasgow.

James already held the Super Featherweight (9st 4lb) title but has been told that he cannot hold both titles simultaneously.

James says he is likely to give up the Super Featherweight title as 9st is his best fighting weight.

Before the title fight in the Thistle Hotel, Glasgow, Hastie had been in the media saying what he was going to do, but James just went about his business, winning each of the five rounds of the fight and forcing his opponent to retire on his stool before the start of the sixth.

The victory entitles James to a fight on the Ricky Burns world title bill at the Braehead Arena on March 12.

He is also likely to box in a show in Leeds on March 26, organised by his own manager Derek Roche.

James has thanked the big support that travelled down from the north-east to back him as he won the title.
