Luthermuir WFC travelled to Dee Vale knowing it would be a tough afternoon, with Dee unbeaten this season and closing in on the title.
It was a wet afternoon, with spells of rain making the start of the game rather slippy. The first stages were controlled by Dee but they failed to break through the Muir defence.
Luthermuir had a great chance after seven minutes when, just inside the Dee half, Murison fed the ball down the wing to Lownie who sprinted forward but her shot went straight at the keeper.
Another great chance was missed when a ball cleared by walker from the defence went straight over the back line and Lownie found she was clear, cut inside towards her goal but the shot just went past the far post.
A good ball from Murison had Lownie down the left and, with nothing in the middle, she ran to the bye line before winning a corner kick. From the resulting corner, it was just missed at the back post from Lownie. The game then swung back the way of Dee and they started to put pressure on Luthermuir with pressing them into their own half.
They had a good chance after 17 minutes when the attacker found space outside the box but her shot was fired wide. The first goal came two minutes later when a corner to Dee down the left hand side was swung over in to the danger area, was headed clear by Young but McCann collected outside the box and rifled a shot past everyone for the opener.
Dee continued to press, Luthermuir were trying to work the counter attack and it paid off on the 23rd minute when the ball broke to the back line and Walker cleared it down the left where Lownie raced away with one defender. As she got closer to the box she cut inside the defender and, from 20 yards, fired it over the keeper for 1-1. This shocked Dee and, within a minute, Luthermuir were in the lead after some great work in midfield.
The ball came loose and Calder won this before playing some quick passes with Boyack who fed the ball into a gap where Lownie raced on to it and, from just inside the box, fired it low past the keeper for 2-1.
Dee then pressed Luthermuir deeper into their own half with chances falling to their Dee strikers but the shots were well saved by Charles in goal. A final clear cut chance fell on the 41st minute when Dee had a corner out on the right and, as it was swung over, Duncan flashed a header at goal which Charles saved well.
Luthermuir WFC looked to continue in the same way as the first half with counter attacking Dee when the chances came around but the second half was controlled by the latter and showed why they are clear at the top.
After some changes to their personnel in the home team they continued to attack in waves but Luthermuir were keeping their shape and frustrating the home team. They had a couple of shots from outside the box where Charles handled well and some crosses that flashed across the goal but the defence was staying strong and cleared their lines.
after 61 minutes, Dee got back on level terms when Stirling created space down the right hand side and, as she got closer to the bye line, she seemed to fire a cross over that deceived all and flew into the opposite top corner for 2-2.
Luthermuir then tried to rally again and Lownie had a great chance when a ball down the wing by Calder had Lownie with a little space but her shot flew wide of the target.
On the 69th minute, a corner from Dee was swung over from the left and - as Charles punched it in the air, where the Dee attacker headed it towards goal - Walker nodded it off the line and then it was cleared to safety. Luthermuir then replaced the hard-working Middleton for Lawrence to get some match fitness.
Dee continued to try and break down the Luthermuir back line but they were not for giving anything away now and stayed firm with some great saves from Charles in goal.
The game seemed to pass so quickly and the final attack came from Luthermuir where they had a succession of three corners and nearly nicked it at the end.
