Bervie started this match on Saturday missing Davies, Blacklaw and Montgomerie, with Smith, McLaughlin and Anderson all returning to the starting 11.

The hosts started positively by setting the tone and pressing down the left with Sawyer and Anderson who won a throw. From the throw the ball was played to Collie who fed McHardy who fired over from distance.

After a period of Bervie pressure, Ellon started to come into the match and Gordon had to be alert to read a through-ball and clear. Bervie’s first clear chance fell to Collie, Avis firing a cross in early which was deflected into his path however his effort was too close to the keeper who saved.

Bervie’s next chance came when McHardy did well to win the ball in the middle and fed it wide to Smith, his ball forward to Avis was a good one who went on to win another corner.

McLaughlin won the ball and found Salmond who tried to play a neat through-ball for Anderson but it was just too strong and was collected by the keeper.

Bervie were having some joy down the left and Anderson was found once again by Salmond and played a good cross into the box which was just too strong for Collie. Salmond was next to go close when Webster’s free kick found him in the box but his flicked header went just wide.

Despite the good start, Bervie found themselves behind when Sawyer conceded a free kick by handling the ball around 20 yards out. The kick was well struck round the wall into the top corner, just beyond Leisk’s reach.

Bervie’s heads dropped a little after falling behind but they dug in and a long ball forward found Collie who was clean through. However, he was harshly pulled back for a foul when, in fact, he was just stronger than the defender.

Bervie’s persistence paid off when Collie did well wide on the left and drove the ball across the box. Anderson failed to get a touch on the ball but it fell to McLaughlin on the edge of the box who took one touch and calmly fired home to level the match.

Tails up, Bervie were pressing hard and Anderson did well to flick the ball to Collie whose return found Anderson, his cross found Avis at the back post but his effort was blocked.

Just when it looked like Bervie would grab a second, they fell behind again. Bervie were exposed down their left, allowing Ellon to press forward and cross for a straight forward tap in.

Bervie came out for the second half with the same message as the week before when they were told to stay calm, continue to play their football and it would bear results. They started positively with Gordon finding Anderson down the left who controlled and cut back in finding McLaughlin whose effort was well saved.

Bervie kept the pressure on and McHardy won a free kick on the right, Gordon firing the ball in which was cleared back to him. His ball in this time found Sawyer who controlled and found Collie who slotted home to equalise.

Bervie nearly grabbed the lead straight after, Leisk’s long clearance bouncing over a defender. Collie, through on goal, fired goalward only to see his effort cannon back off the post.

Bervie did grab the lead shortly after, McHardy won the ball and playing throughto Anderson on the left who slipped it below the onrushing keeper to give Bervie the lead for the first time in the match.

The homesters were now looking the stronger side with Gordon dominating in the air at the back and the they nearly grabbed a fourth when Collie set McLaughlin up but his effort went wide.

The next goal went to the visitors, Bervie again shooting themselves in the foot with the midfield out of position, and the defence were overrun - allowing the striker time to pick his spot past Leisk.

With the sidelines despairing at the home side’s inability to hold onto the lead, Bervie grabbed the lead again, McHardy finding Collie who fed McLaughlin who calmly went past his man before slotting home.

Bervie had their heads up now and Smith found Avis down the right, his ball across found Collie whose first time effort went just wide.

The home side did grab the all-important and killer fifth, Anderson cutting in off the left touchline fired an effort goal ward which took a deflection to beat the goalkeeper and seal the match.

This was a hard fought win, despite having the bulk of possession all three of the away sides goals came from errors and Bervie had to show real character to twice fight back from behind.
