Bervie travelled to North to face an Ellon team who got the season under way with a convincing win against Stoneywood the previous week.
It was the home side who started the stronger with the Bervie defence under pressure from the start; a dangerous ball in from the Ellon was missed by Leisk and narrowly went past the far post.
Bervie started to settle and it was Sawyer pushing forward from left back who did well to get past his man and fire in an effort from the edge of the box which went wide. Bervie’s next chance fell to McLaughlin after a corner but again went wide.
Bervie were doing well to cope with all that Ellon threw at them with Davies and Webster standing strong and winning the aerial challenges, however they were unable to make much progress forward for long periods of the first half.
Toward the end of the half, Bervie started to take control and a ball forward to Blacklaw saw him do well to hold off a defender and get an effort in but again failed to find the target.
Bervie earned a freekick down the left after McHardy was fouled, Blacklaw took the kick and sent in a fantastic ball that was screaming for someone to make a run across the keeper however no run was forthcoming and the keeper gathered the ball in.
Blacklaw was starting to have more influence on the game and fed McLaughlin who played the ball in to Morris. However, he delayed and the chance was closed down. With heavy rain falling, Bervie finished the half on the front foot; again going close from a free kick, Salmond was fouled and Blacklaw fired in another fine strike that was deflected wide.
Bervie started the second half looking dangerous with Avis doing well and finding space down the right, however it was the home side that broke the deadlock, Smith conceding a free kick on the right which was bent in and with a forward running across the ball it deceived Leisk and found the net.
Bervie weren’t behind long, McLaughlin did well on the left and found Blacklaw in the centre, he fed Avis who flighted in a lovely looping cross that Blacklaw rose to flick over the keeper.
Bervie were lifted again and grabbed the lead after Leisk made a good catch at the other end and bowled the ball out; Anderson found McLaughlin who played in Blacklaw who raced on to slip the ball past the keeper for his second.
Blacklaw and Avis were starting to have a big influence on the game from the flanks as Bervie stretched the home side and it was Blacklaw who went close again, this time beating his man twice and firing an effort wide.
Avis then sent a low cross in which Anderson couldn’t get his foot to. It was Bevie who grabbed the decisive next goal, McLaughlin fed Blacklaw whose effort was saved, however he reached the ball quickest and crossed for Avis who rose majestically to nod the ball home and seal the win and was a good away win for Bervie against a strong Ellon team and in difficult conditions,.
