A confident Bervie took on Byron in league action despite lossing their last two games.
Bervie made changes to the team in respect of personnel and shape with a more attack minded formation used.
Bervie started the match and immediately put themselves under pressure when Karpinski’s pass to Webster was short allowing Byron to bear down on goal only for Wood to make a good challenge and clear the ball. The opening goal came from pressure down the right, Anderson winning the ball in the midfield driving forward and feeding Avis whose low cross caused a scramble on the box allowing Sawyer to prod home the opener.
Following the restart Bervie continued to apply pressure however were struggling to create many clear cut chances. Webster was proving to be the main creator at this point, this time receiving a throw from Wood and crossing for Sawyer whose headed effort was saved. Bervie had a scare when on what proved to be a rare attack a shot came in which Davies did well to block with his head and deflect the ball up and onto the bar and out for a corner.
Bervie got their deserved second when Morris played in a fine corner which Anderson met full on the volley rifling the ball high into the net.
Bervie made two changes at half time, Duggan replacing Sawyer and Garden replacing Karpinski. Bervie grabbed a third when Smith played in Webster down the right who drove forward and fired an effort in which the keeper could only parry to Avis who was now on the left and calmly slotted home.
Bervie were now completely dominant and did extend their lead shorlty after, Boyd finding Duggan with a good ball from defence who in turn fed Webster who strode forward and fired in an effort the keeper could only parry into his own net.
Bervie added a fifth shortly after, Anderson pressuring the full back won the ball and moved forward into the box, as the keeper tried to close him down he opened up his body and placed the ball in off the far post for his second of the match.
A good win for Bervie away from home with a couple of players staking a claim to keep their places in the side despite more regular players being available for next weekend’s Stonehaven Cup Match away to Deeside.
