Stonehaven Youth Girls U-15 v Westdyke u-15’s League (Home) 23/03/2012 result 0-8

Squad: Danni Imray, Emma Christie, Shannon Brawley, Daisy Smith, Kirsten Johnston, Katy Townsend, Erin Christie, Ann Laing, Aria Kennedy, Emily Grundy, Lisa Porter, Georgia Veitch,Amy Tench, Katherine Robertson, Heather Mackay.

WITH any young team you get inconsistency and Saturday was no different. After their glorious opening day result Stoney were brought crashing back down to earth by a much older, stronger, more experienced Westdyke Squad. Played in gale force conditions it took some time for Stoney to settle with Westdyke dominating possession but unable to breach a defence well marshalled by Smith and Johnston. Emma Christie and Brawley , Robertson and Tench battled hard to keep out the Westdyke attacks and whenever they were beaten Imray was sensational in goal. Townsend and Laing had their hands full with opponents a couple of years older than them but slowly Stoney gained a foothold. Westdyke sneaked an opener after a serious of ricochets in the box but Stoney won a series of corners and the strong running of Porter and Kennedy began to cause problems. Kennedy fed Porter who was upended in the box and Mackay’s freekick looked goalbound until it deflected off the end of the wall. Vietch came on and added energy but Stoney couldn’t get a breakthrough.

Bizarrely as Stoney started to exert more pressure the goals started leaking in the other end. A couple of mix ups and Westdyke strikers finding their range left Stoney with a mountain to climb but Grundy, Erin Christie were finally linking up with Kennedy, Townsend, Laing and Porter and Stoney began to carve out a number of half chances. Mackay went close before Porter, Christie and Townsend combined to lead to Townsend beating the defence for pace only for the defence to get back at the last moment to force a shot straight at the keeper.

All in all a disappointing result but a valuable learning experience as many of the young Stoney squad had never before played 11 a side.

BEST PLAYER - Although Smith was promising first half Imray showed real promise as a keeper before heads went down late on. MAGIC MOMENT - Getting out of the wind at half time , bring on summer football !!

Stoney Primary Squad Aberdeen Sports Village Sunday 24/03/13

With narrow defeats against Aberdeen teams and Donside Stoney ironically drew agaisnt the strongest side Westdyke . Chelsea Traynor scored a couple of belting goals and Caitlin Denniston scored her trademark rocket before she showed great promise in goal. Young Crystal Kirkpatrick was a box of tricks and Libby Spence’s calm composure and languid dribbling skills shone out.
