A team of ex Marykirk FC Welfare League players come out of retirement for a challenge match against the current team.

Despite many not playing for a number of years, the experience and ability of the ‘old timers’ told as they ran out 2-1 winners. The ‘old’ strikers - Colin Frew and Mike Milne missed a hatful of chances in front of goal and found themselves repeatedly offside, reminiscent of days gone by. The game was won in the middle of the park with Chris Fyvie and Gordon Deane running the show and providing the service for the two wing men - Jon Brand and Andrew Taggart.

Craig Scott, Lee Grant, Scott Melvin and Ally Hutchison were solid at the back and provided a sound base for the rest of the team to play a quality passing game.

‘Old timers’ captain and organiser of the event Ally Hutchison commented - “It was great to see so many old players still keen to turnout and play in support of the current team. I hope it becomes an annual event. Who knows, it might even encourage other local teams to put out a team of ex players and follow suit.”
