Aboyne 0 Johnshaven Athletic 6
It was cup duties for Johner at the weekend when they faced Division Three outfit, Aboyne, in the first round of the Edmund Trophy.
Johnshaven never had to get out of second gear to win against a team who are struggling in the lowest division of the Association.
Johner were guilty of missing plentiful chances in the match, with Beedie, Paton R. Tringham and Smith all having chances in the first 15 minutes without managing to find the back of the net.
They did, however, take the lead in the 20th minute when a through-ball from R. Tringham found Scott Beedie and he managed to prod the ball home to set the away team on their way. 1-0.
The second came soon after when a big kick from keeper Findlater found Smith who flicked the ball over the defender and on to the on-running Lee Paton who slotted the ball past the impressive home keeper. 2-0.
The away team were forced into an early substitution when the injured R. Tringham was replaced by S.Blease.
Not long after coming home, Shaun Blease used his quick feet to beat three players in the box and stabbed the ball home to virtually secure the away team’s place in the next round. 3-0.
The home keeper made a wonder save shortly after when Scott Beedie’s shot was tipped past the post for a corner. A. Tringham got his head to it but could only direct the ball over.
In what will be a contender for miss of the season, T. Dalgarno, Smith and A. Tringham linked well down the left hand side, and when the latter drilled the ball along the six-yard box he found S. Blease at the back post with an open goal, but the sub could not direct it into the empty net.
Ross Blease made no mistake from the penalty spot just before half time when Beedie was fouled.
Half Time Score 0-4
Lee Paton scored early in the second half after a good cut back from A. Tringham. 5-0.
In the 55th minute, Johnshaven ringed in the changes when Dundas, Stephen, Milne and Stuart Beedie replaced T. Dalgarno, Paton J. Dalgarno and Smith.
On the hour mark, Johner keeper Findlater had to pull off a good save after the home team countered in numbers, hopeful of a consolation, but with the striker’s effort appearing to sail into the top corner, the big shot stopper was on hand to tip it past the post.
Johnshaven were guilty again of missing chances throughout the half, but they did put the icing on the cake in the 80th minute when Scott Beedie was on hand to blast home an A. Tringham cross.
