Hive defeat puts progession in doubt

Stonehaven suffered a 3-2 defeat to 10 man Deveronside at Canal Park on Saturday.

The result puts their hopes of progression to the last eight of this season’s Grill League Cup in severe doubt.

The Hive started well and created a few chances in the first quarter of an hour, however it was the hosts who took the lead after 28 minutes when McKinnon flicked a shot past Stark and into the back of the net.

This only served to sting the visitors into life and, just over a minute later, a Goate corner from the right found the head of Neal McTavish to open his account for his new club.

Half time 1-1

Stonehaven had chances in the early stages of the second, however so did the hosts and they took the lead on the 71st minute when the ball fell to Blackhall at the back post who made no mistake.

After 82 minutes, The Hive levelled matters again when a low free kick found Martin Shand and he did enough to find the back of the net.

The scoring wasn’t finished there, however, and with the last kick of the ball the home side found a winner to put them top of Section Three with seven points and one game left to play.

Stonehaven will have to hope for maximum points in their remaining two games and hope that Deveronside draw, or lose to Burghead, to have any chance of progression.
