Stonehaven travelled to The Meadows on Saturday to face Ellon United in the McBookie.com Superleague as they looked to build on last week’s win at home to FC Stoneywood.
The Hive started brightly and were ahead in the first minute when a Johnston corner found the head of Peterhead loanee Scott ADAMS who made no mistake at the back post.
Adams did well soon after but his ball to Cheyne on the left was cleared by the hosts defence.
Ellon broke forward on 8 minutes but Steven Reid blocked for a corner which was headed wide.
Jordan Reid tried his luck on 11 minutes but his shot from the edge of the area was palmed away.
A minute later a ball over the top found Cormack but he lofted his shot over the onrushing keeper but wide of the post.
The second goal wasn’t far off, less than a minute later to be precise. Another corner from Johnston was headed down by McTavish into the path of CORMACK who fired into the top corner.
Anderson had a chance on 23 minutes when the ball in from the right fell into his path but his shot was held by the ‘keeper.
Jordan Reid had an excellent chance a minute later when Johnston picked him out at the back post but he could only shoout over at the front post.
The same player had another chance just over a minute later but his lob went just over the crossbar.
It wasn’t long before the visitors lead was further increased. A seemingly harmless ball over the top wasn’t dealt with by Craib and fell to SHAND who did well to flick over the ‘keeper with his back to goal.
Good short play ball on 36 minutes saw the ball fall to Cheyne but his shot was tipped wide.
Two minutes later Jordan Reid had another chance but could only stab his shot straight at ‘keeper.
Ellon came close on 40 minutes when Pyper failed to clear and Robertson did well to make a save and McTavish cleared the danger.
The deficit was reduced on 42 minutes when a ball into the box wasn’t cleared and Johnson had a simple finish at the back post.

The visitors started the second half looking to regain their three goal cushion and on 49 Cormack squared to Jordan Reid but he saw his shot blocked.
Ellon came close on 63 minutes when a long ball was headed inside but the shot from the edge of the area was cleared for a corner by Robertson.
Jordan Reid had two chances in the space of a minute but on both occasions was just unable to get enough purchase on his efforts to beat the ‘keeper.
Ellon came close with twenty minutes to go and only a good save from Robertson prevented a free kick from reducing the deficit.
Stonehaven broke upfield straight from the following corner but Cormack could only send his shot over the Ellon crossbar.
A minute later however and the Hive lead was increased.
A corner from the right was swung in by Armstrong and headed wide into the path of Scott Adams who beat his man brilliantly before crossing to the back post where CORMACK made no mistake and fired home.
The home side had their best move of the match on 77 minutes when good short play down the right resulted in a shot being blocked for a corner. The corner which followed saw a free header tipped over by Robertson.
Any chance the home side might have had to get back into the game was extinguished on 82 minutes.The ball was played to the Ellon right and following a foul on Adams a penalty was awarded. CORMACK stepped up to send the ‘keeper the wrong way for his hattrick.
Deep into injury time and Hive made it doc when an Adams free kick was headed into the far corner by JONNY COOK who was making his first appearance of the season following a short loan spell down at Ardrossan Winton Rovers.
