Stonehaven welcomed PMAC Superleague newcomers Inverness City to Glenury on Saturday hoping to get the three points.
That would enable them to keep pace with the teams at the top of the table.
Hive came racing out of the traps and had a great chance in the first minute when a ball down left found Armstrong but, after the cut back on the by-line, there wasn’t enough power on the shot to trouble the ‘keeper.
It wasn’t long before the opening goal came, however, three minutes to be precise. A ball from the right from Sulkevicius found who cut a low cross back to Armstrong who passed low into the left corner of the net.
After eight minutes, the lead was doubled when Anderson did well to win the ball and played the ball wide to Šulkevecus who cut inside at the corner of the six yard box and finished.
The visitors had a couple of chances shortly after but a combination of good goalkeeping and an over hit cross kept the hosts two to the good.
Stonehaven were back on the attack after 20 minutes when they broke upfield and Armstrong saw his shot blocked by the ‘keeper. Bellu did well just two minutes down the right hand side but his cut back was just kept out.
With 25 minutes gone Anderson played in Bellu but his shot went wide from the edge of the six-yard box.
Inverness very nearly reduced the deficit a minute later when a corner into the box was missed by Stark but was scrambled off of the line.
The goal did come only two minutes later when a free kick from McDonald over the top was headed in at the back post by the unmarked Keith Mason.
The defence were caught out but, fortunately, Stark held the shot.
Armstrong had a chance to increase Stonehaven’s lead after 37 minutes when he latched onto a ball over the top from Anderson but his shot was blocked for a corner.
That miss was to cost the hosts as a ball into the box wasn’t properly cleared and Nathan Wilson found the net to level the scores.
Half time - Stonehaven 2 v 2 Inverness City
Stonehaven made a tactical change at half time with Reid replacing Goate.
Whatever was said at half time appeared to work as the Hive regained the lead after 51 minutes. A throw-in from Stephen found Bellu who took the ball forward and fired a shot which went through the ‘keeper and into the net.
Bellu could have doubled his tally a minute later when he leapt to meet a great ball in from Cook but saw his header crash back off of the top of the crossbar.
The lead was increased just a minute later, however, and it was the impressive Anderson again who was involved when he played the ball into the path of Armstrong who showed composure to slot low past the ‘keeper.
With just over an hour gone, Bellu nearly got his second of the game but after a surging run he dragged his shot wide of the far post.
A minute later Armstrong played a ball into the box which fell to Sulkevicius but he side footed wide of the far post.
It was Sulkevecus who almost turned provider when he crossed for Armstrong but his shot was cleared off of the line.
Inverness reduced the leeway again with 20 minutes to go when the ball was switched across and Stephen slipped allowing McKenzie to cut inside and find the net.
Stonehaven’s reply was instantaneous as, just a minute later, the ball was played to Jonny Cook whose shot found the corner of the net.
Both sides had half chances in the remaining quarter of an hour but neither were able to add to the scoresheet and it was The Hive who took the three points.
