Johnner continued their fine start to the season with a battling win against promotion hopefuls Newtonhill.
In the 10th minute, Johnshaven took the lead when Nath Keddie floated the ball into the box from a free kick, and after some intense pressure on the goalkeeper from James Mennie, the shot stopper fumbled his catch and the big centre half was on hand to stroke the ball into the empty net.
Newtonhill immediately hit back when their winger beat the offside trap and crossed for his striker who beat a Johnshaven player in the air at the back post to head into the net.
It was 2-1 after half an hour. This time it was Jack Dalgarno who took the free kick and drilled it across the six-yard box. James Mennie managed to get a flick towards the back post where Cameron Spink met the ball and finished well.
Darren Cruickshank scored the goal of the game when he showed terrific feet and composure when presented with a chance and rounded the keeper to pass the ball into the empty net.
Johnshaven started brightly in the second half and had early chances through MacLaren and Spink.
In the 55th minute, a Johnshaven player was adjudged to have taken down a Newtonhill player illegally. The referee showed him a red card for denying a goal scoring opportunity and it was a double blow as they converted the free kick.
It might be a new look team at the Wairds this season but the famous Johnshaven grit and determination was evident throughout as the boys battled hard to hold on to all three points.
