Stonehaven hosted Turriff at Mineralwell Park looking to bounce back after last week’s disappointing league cup exit.
The game was end to end throughout, both teams creating chances. The first goal came from Stonehaven when good play for Ferries on the right wing was crossed into the box to find Gordon who volleyed home from close range.
Turriff were still creating lots of chances at the other end but couldn’t take any of them. They did get their reward when the ball broke to their attacker on the edge of the box and she finished low into the left hand corner.
Half time Stonehaven Ladies FC 1 - 1 Turriff Ladies FC
Stonehaven started to take more control of the game in the second half and took the lead through Simpson. She broke forward from midfield, and finished from a tight angle.
Stonehaven then increased their lead further through Jamieson, again a great finish from a tight angle.
Turriff still looked dangerous on the break and didn’t give up. Turriff were awarded a free kick on the edge of the box but Paterson, in the Stonehaven goal, managed to tip it onto the crossbar.
However, Turriff did get a goal back. A cross in from the right hand side saw Bowie try to clear the ball but the high looping header found the top corner past her own keeper.
Turriff continued to push forward and create chances but couldn’t find the much-needed equalizer, so Stonehaven held on to collect all three points.
Next game for Stonehaven is the first round of the Scottish cup at home to Caithness this Sunday,May 18.
