Luthermuir WFC travelled to Kemnay Ladies with a few players missing but still had a good squad to hopefully try and get three points.
It was a lovely sunny afternoon and Luthermuir straight from the kick off worked a quick ball from Lownie to Murison then laid back for Bruce to drop the ball in behind the back line for Lownie to race clear and fire home for 1-0.
The Muir had their tails up and on 5 minutes Lownie was clear of the back line again but fired her shot wide of the target. On 11 minutes some good work from Young created a chance down the left for Murison to fire over a cross that was just headed away from Lownie at the last minute.
On 16 minutes a quick corner by Murison and Walker was fired into the box where it was scrambled about in the box and Calder just headed wide of the post. On 19 minutes Kemnay created a good chance when Godsall tried to clear the ball but it hit Boyack and fell to the Kemnay attacker who fired her shot just wide of the post. Kemnay then had a good spell of position and on 24 minutes a shot was fired high towards Charles goal where she palmed it away and then Godsall cleared.
Luthermuir started to sit back and Kemnay pushed forward but Charles did well in goal. On 33 minutes Kemnay found the equaliser there played had deserved when Charles cleared the ball from a goal kick and the midfielder took it down and fired it high towards goal where Charles could not get enough on it to stop it going in for 1-1. This boosted Kemnay and they continued to press Luthermuir. The last chance of the half fell to Murison when good work by Calder had Murison clear down the middle where she fired her shot at the keeper.
Luthermuir WFC management had a good talk at half time to remind the girls that we wanted them to up the tempo for the second half and start taking our chances. They didn’t disappoint when on 47 minutes when Calder laid the ball forward for Murison who worked a one two with Lownie to race down the centre and fire home for 2-1. Within a couple of minutes great work by Murison down the right created space and she played the ball to the on rushing Calder who fired a low shot that the keeper saved well.
Luthermuir were trying to get the next goal to kill the game off and a great chance was presented to Lownie when Godsall played her in down the left, she cut inside but fired her shot wide of the post. Crichton then fed the ball to Lownie a few minutes later and she passed it into the on rushing Murison but her shot hit the side netting.
On 57 minutes a foul by Young gave Kemnay a good chance about 25 yards out down the centre, the freekick was just fired over Charles crossbar. Kemnay got back on level terms on 61 minutes when the unmarked midfielder created space on the edge of the box and fired a low shot which took a big bobble just when Charles went down and over her for 2-2.
Luthermuir then replaced Crichton with Mowatt joining the field on 63 minutes to freshen up the midfield. Luthermuir then went back in to the lead on 70 minutes when a ball down the left wing by Godsall had Lownie clear of her marker and cut into the box to fire a low shot for 3-2. On 73 minutes good work by Murison created a chance for Calder but her shot was saved by the keeper.
Luthermuir were looking for the killer goal and it came on 75 minutes when Murison was fouled in the box and Walker stepped up to coolly slot it low into the corner for 4-2. Within 4 minutes Luthermuir extended their lead when Boyack chipped the ball over the back line and Murison raced away from the last defender and wrong footed the keeper to fire it into the empty net for 5-2.
Luthermuir then took their foot of the gas and let Kemnay back into the game on 83 minutes when a slack pass at the back from Walker to Young was collected by the midfielder and she raced forward to fire it into the top corner past the helpless Charles for 5-3. Luthermuir then changed Nicol and Charles for Murray and Barclay to get some match time.
