Opening league win for new look Johner

A new look Johnner hosted newly relegated from the premier league team Insch in their opening game of the season.

It was the away team who started brightly and keeper Glennie had to be alert to come out to thwart the attacking full back in the 5th minute.

Johnshaven had their first chance in the 8th minute after Keddie played R. Blease through but the midfielder blasted his shot high and wide.

15 year old Sword had a chance a minute later when he skinned a player down the right but his shot was straight at the keeper.

Both teams were playing a compact system and although the away team enjoyed more possession they could not create any clear cut opportunities.

On the stroke of half time 16 year old debutant CAMERON SPINK was played through by R. Blease and he showed great composure from just inside the box to curl the ball into the far top corner.

Half Time Score 1-0

17 year old Trialist Yan Couineaux-Rice replaced Sword after 55 minutes. The young attacking midfielder was given his first opportunity immediately when he found himself in on goal but his shot was well saved by the Insch goalkeeper. Just a minute later he took a nasty knock and was replaced by Trialist Jharone Gibbon, making his competitive comeback after a leg break last December.

Within 3 minutes the strong forward contributed to the home team doubling their lead. He held the ball up brilliantly and played in DARREN CRUICKSHANK who toe poked the ball past the out rushing keeper and into the net. Score 2-0

With 15 minutes to go Insch got a goal back from a header following a corner. Score 2-1.

In the 78th minute Keddie showed terrific skill to beat 2 players then played a ball across to JHARONE GIBBON who beat the offside trap and smashed the ball home. Score 3-1

Johnshaven made 2 more subs as Stuart Beedie and Jay Doherty replaced Cammy Spink and Jason Leven.

In the 88th minute Insch had a free kick right on the edge of the box but as the ball appeared to be sailing into the corner keeper Glennie got a strong hand to it to push the ball away from danger.

Final Score 3-1
