Hive defender Reid returned to his old stomping ground scoring the winner in a 1-0 win away to Ellon United at the weekend.
Stonehaven travelled to The Meadows on Saturday to take on Ellon United in the PMAC Superleague knowing that a win would see them claim second place in the table.
The first half was a fairly dour affair with any real chances very few and far between.
Jonny Cook had the only meaningful chance on 18 minutes when his shot from the 6 yard box was blocked and out for a corner which was dealt with by the home defence.
The rest of the half saw both sides enjoy plenty of the ball but create very little in terms of a goal threat.
Hive started the second half looking to get themselves in front early on. A free kick on 48 minutes saw Shand’s effort from 20 yards pushed out by Steer but Anderson could send his shot off the crossbar.
Just after the hour mark Watt tried his luck but his shot went just wide of Steer’s right hand post.
With 70 minutes on the clock the hosts had a great chance to put themselves in front but Tim Capstick, making only his second appearance of the season, produced a fantastic double save to deny Anderson.
Cook came close minutes later when he shot over the bar following good play down the right by Danny Anderson.
On 74 minutes the ball was played up to substitute Bellu who headed down to Anderson and he took the ball on but elected to cut back when taking the shot on looked as if it would have been the better idea. From the resulting corner Shand picked the ball up in the box and turned but his shot was held by Steer.
As it was beginning to seem as if the goal would never come The Hive took the lead with just a couple of minutes remaining. Bellu put in a cross to the back post which was cut out for a corner which was then cleared off the line by Steer. The danger wasn’t over however and the ball was played to the back post where it was met by the head of former Ellon United defender REID who sent the ball into the far corner of the net to give the Hive all three points.
