Stonehaven travelled to Ian Mair Park on Saturday to take on Dyce Juniors in the PMAC Superleague.
They knew that a win could take them up to second in the table if the other result went their way.
There was little of note happening early doors, with former Hive player, Moorhouse, putting in a dangerous cross that was cleared by the defence then the visitors having a chance when Mark Bartlet was short with a headed passback Buchanan in the Dyce goal did well to block Armstrong’s shot after sevenminutes.
The Hive were awarded a free kick on the edge of the penalty area but Sulkevicius saw his shot blocked by the Dyce wall.
The hosts came close shortly after but Mountford shot wide of target.
On the 21st minute, Bellu did well to break down the left but his cutback found Armstrong who was unable to get a shot away.
With 10 minutes left of the first, a Stonehaven corner found the unmarked McTavish but he sent his header over the crossbar.
Just before the break a far post ball found home striker Gunn but he couldn’t get enough on his header and the ball was cleared.
Half time - Dyce Juniors 0-0 Stonehaven
The visitors made a change at half time with Adam McWilliam replacing the injured Valentinas Sulkevicius.
Dyce started sharply, firstly Morrice sent in a dangerous cross which Mountford headed back across goal but there was nobody to take advantage and thenMoorhouse put in a cross but, despite having a free header, Mountford could only send it crashing off off the post. The rebound fell to former Hive striker Pirie but luckily for the visitors he blasted over.
Armstrong had a chance but he could only send his shot wide. Shortly after, it was Armstrong involved again when he broke upfield however his low cross was missed by everyone.
Minutes after the hour mark, Armstrong was again involved when a ball over the top fell into his path but he could only send his shot straight at Buchanan.
Bellu had a chance with just over 20 minutes remaining but he took the shot on early when he had more time to advance.
Just as it seemed that the game was destined to end as a stalemate The Hive took the lead on the 78th minute. Pyper played a ball into the box which Bellu did well to keep alive despite the attentions of Yeats and the ball fell to Shand who fired past Buchanan.
The hosts had a few chances towards the end but the Hive clean sheet remained intact and the three points move the Glenury Park side up to joint third in the table.
