Stoney are hit for six by Deevale

Stonehaven ladies welcomed league leaders Deevale ladies to Mineralwell park with Deevale one point ahead going into the game.

It was Deevale who struck first, a corner not dealt with was slotted home from close range. It was then 2 nil.

The Deevale went forward with plenty time and space to finish over Paterson.

Stoney were then awarded a penalty and a way back into the game but Taylor saw her penalty kick crash off the crossbar.

Stoney knew they weren’t out the game yet and were unlucky not to have anything to show for their first half efforts.

They got a goal back when a corner from Ferries, was met by Taylor to head home.but Deevale instantly replied to make it 3-1.

It was then Stoney’s turn to get a goal back, Ferries dribbling passed the Deevale defence and then finished passed theire keeper.

Yet again, however, Deevale replied to make it 4-2. Stoney didn’t give up and Ferries got her second of the match, a low cross in from E.Bowie met at the back post by Ferries.

But again Deevale restored their two-goal advantage, their midfielder finding time and space on the edge of the box to pick her spot. Deevale were then awarded a penalty of their own, which was converted to make it 6-3.

This was a highly entertaining and competitive game between the two top teams in the league.

Next game for Stonehaven is a league fixture, away to Forfar Farmington Ladies on September 7.
