Stonehaven hosted Hamilton in the quarter-finals of the Second Division League Cup and the first half was a close contest.
Both teams tried to figure how their opponents would play the game, having not faced each other before.
The only goal of the first half came from Stonehaven, E.Bowie racing onto a through ball from the midfield to finish passed the Hamilton keeper.

The second half started much the same as the first ended, both teams creating chances.
Stonehaven then doubled their advantage after great play from Gauld on the right wing, who crossed to Taylor in the middle who beat the Hamilton keeper.
A mistake from Paterson in the Stonehaven goal then saw Hamilton get a goal back. The Hamilton attacker out muscled Paterson to finish into the empty net.
This gave Hamilton hope of a come back, but Stonehaven soon made it 3-1. Gauld broke into the box and finished from close range.
Hamilton did not give up and made it 3-2, an out-swinging corner being met by the Hamilton attacker.
Stonehaven then were made to rue their own missed chances when Hamilton made it 3-3 late in the game. Another cross in from the wide area not dealt with by the Stonehaven defence was put away by Hamilton.
The game finished 3-3 which meant another 30 minutes extra time was to be played.
Hamilton took the lead in the first half of extra time, another cross not cleared away, and the Hamilton attacker raced onto the ball unmarked to finish. Stonehaven knew they had to push forward to try get an equaliser and did have chances but couldn’t take any of them.
A very disappointing day for Stoney after leading for most the match.
