Stonehaven Ladies FC 5

Elgin City Ladies FC 3

Stonehaven welcomed Elgin City to Mineralwell park knowing only three points would be enough to keep them in touching distance with Deevale at the top of the league.

On a very sunny day in Stonehaven, the home side started well, creating opportunities without being able to find that killer final pass.

It was the visitors who took the lead, a high looping ball kicked goal ward and Paterson in goal was unable to reach it to keep it out.

It was then 2-0 to Elgin, a free kick conceded 25 yards out was drilled home high into the top corner.

Stonehaven managed to get one back before the break, Jamieson racing onto the ball over the top to round the keeper and finish into the empty net.

Half time Stonehaven Ladies FC 1 - 2 Elgin City Ladies FC

Stonehaven started the second half well, knowing they were unlucky to be behind after playing the better football in the first half.

It wasn’t long before they got their equalizer. A fierce shot from Jamieson crashed off the inside of the crossbar and managed to cross the line.

Stonehaven then took the lead, a superb strike from Gordon leaving the keeper with no chance.

Elgin were looking dangerous on the break so Stonehaven knew the game wasn’t won yet. They made it 4-2. A cross met by Taylor with a brilliant diving bullet header into the net.

Elgin responded quickly to make it 4-3, their forward latching onto a throughball, going round the advancing Stoney keeper to finish into an empty net.

Stonehaven made the game safe with their fifth of the match. A corner whipped in, met by the head of Penny at the back post.

This was a hard-fought victory that leaves Stoney 4 points adrift of the top with a game in hand going into the summer break.

Next game for Stonehaven is an away league fixture against Dee Ladies on June 15.
