Stonehaven athletic started the game slow allowing Granite city to get a foothold in the game early on, the visitors were passing the ball well and their off the ball movement was good making it difficult for Stonehaven to get into the game.

The visitors were pushing forward early on and their through balls and balls over the top were causing Stonehaven difficulties at the back.

This lead to the first goal when a ball put through over the top found Stonehaven defence flat footed and on the back foot trying to track back, however while the granite city forward was controlling the ball waiting for it to tee up for his shot, left back Kev Bruce managed to make a tackle unfortunately putting the ball back towards the Stonehaven goal and just outside of the goalies reach given the visitors and early lead after only, 23 minutes.

Stonehaven started battling back shortly after going down 1-0 and were beginning to get a foot in the game, and with some good movement and passing were beginning to push forward and cause granite city some problems at the back, although no clear chances were given at this stage.

Stonehaven’s centre midfield Gavin Lawson was forced to be replaced after 35 minutes with a hamstring injury and Stuart Irvine was substituted on as left midfield with Stuart Elliot moving to the centre for the injured Gavin.

Liam Murray was booked shortly after for talking back to the referee, it was a couple of minutes after the booking Stonehaven got their best chance of the first half, it came from a corner and unfortunately Craig Horner put his header over the bar from 4 yards out. The first half finished 0-1 to granite city.

Stonehaven started the 2nd half much better, passing the ball around more efficiently and tracking the granite city midfield, stopping the visitors from starting the 2nd half as well as the first half.

Stonehaven were pushing forward early on and again were causing some difficulties for granite city, which paid off well for Stonehaven when they equalised on the 57 min mark, it could have been goal of the season had the Stonehaven striker meant it, Craig Horner from the left wing and 15 yards outside the box crossed the ball in hoping to find Craig Archibald driving for the back post, however the ball found the back of the net to the surprise of all players and spectators.

This was short lived unfortunately as only 10 minutes later granite city put themselves 1-2 up with a well worked free kick. Stonehaven made 2 further substitutions on the 73rd and 74th minutes, with Kev Bruce being replaced by Fraser Ross, and Liam Murray being replaced by Tommy King.

Stonehaven moved from their 4-5-1 formation to a 3-5-2 formation which help put more pressure on the visitors and should have seen the Stonehaven team equalise latter on.

Stonehaven were pushing hard for the equaliser and missed several clear cut chances and open goals to equalise, Craig Archibald, Andy Cordiner & Craig Horner all missed their respective chances allowing the game to finish 1-2 in favour of Granite City.
