Stonehaven Youth Girls u16’s put a stamp on the end of the season with two victories scoring nine in the process.

The first game was against Buchan Girls u16’s with Stonehaven running away with the game 5-1.

Stonehaven’s muddy marvels comfortably won this rain-drenched encounter at Baird Park with a gutsy, controlled performance.

Within seconds of the start a through ball sent Ogilvie in behind the defence for the opener. Johnston was winning tackle after tackle, Spence was providing craft and guile and Natalie Christie and Kelly offered pacey options down the wings.

Ogilvie was then brought down and Erin Christie expertly dispatched the resulting penalty for a half time lead of 2-0 for the girls. Stoney were secure in the second half with defensive trio Watson, Kelly and captain Smith offering little in the way of chances to Buchan and any time the Stoney defence was breached keeper Simpkin swept up behind.

Spence went on a mazy dribble past three players before Buchan hacked the ball clear. Then a neat move down the right orchestrated by Erin Christie led to Ogilvie drawing a save with the ball breaking to Natalie Christie who arrowed the ball into the net from the left edge of the six yard box.

It was little surprise when Stoney went further ahead with Townsend floating a pass from the centre circle to Ogilvie in the inside left channel. She took the ball on a few yards before crashing a shot which came back off the bar for Johnston to follow up and rifle in the rebound. Ogilvie got the fifth when she again raced in to slot past the keeper, the only alteration to the Stoney domination was a defensive mix up which led to an own goal for Buchan. Final score 5-1

Stoney squad Ellie Simpkin, Sarah Kelly, Koni Watson, Daisy Smith (cpt) , Libby Spence, Erin Christie, Kirsten Johnston, Katy Townsend, Natalie Christie, Lisa Porter, Cesca Ogilvie, Shannon Brawley.

Magic moment - Porter and Johnston racing back half the length of the pitch to tackle a Buchan player typified the strong Stoney team effort.

The second victory came against Westdyke Thistle Girls u16 with Stonehaven winning 4-1.

Stoney signed off their season with another strong performance in difficult conditions at Westhill against young but talented opponents. Within seconds of the opening Ogilvie was through one on one against the Westhill keeper only to narrowly miss. Minutes later Ogilvie got her reward as she calmly slotted low past the Westdyke keeper after an inch perfect pass from Erin Christie.

The pacey backline of Stoney of Watson, Kelly and Smith allowed Stoney’s defence to push high up the park and with play in Westdyke’s half and towards the end of the first half Stoney scored again with sub Tench spinning her marker exquisitely before curling the ball high over the keeper into the net.

Subs Brawley, Evans and Irving came on and the score remained 2-0 for the remainder of the half with neither side creating further chances.

Second half Westdyke scored a goal from the right hand edge of the area with a low drilled shot past Simpkin and it needed a neat save from Simpkin to keep Stoney ahead. From a Stoney corner Erin Christie laid the ball back for Townsend to batter the ball home from six yards for 3-1. A fourth wasn’t long arriving when Kelly won a tackle in the midfield which broke to Ogilvie who guided the ball low past the keeper despairing dive. Final score 4-1
