Under 13 Stonehaven girls tough run

WESTDYKE 8

STONEHAVEN 1

Stonehaven made the short journey to Baird Park on Thursday evening for what was officially an away rearranged league game with Westdyke Girls.

Westdyke made an excellent start and their star regional squad player scored four goals in the first 10 minutes.

Stonehaven started to get a foothold in the game and Johnston, McVey, Farquhar, Fotheringham and Spence started creating chances but they were well defended by the strong Westdyke defence.

Stonehaven had the best of the play as the half drew to a close but couldn’t make the break through.

Half time – 4 – 0

Westdyke pressed on again in the second half and scored another two quick goals to increase their lead.

Doyle added some pace into the midfield and Stonehaven started to drive on again.

Holley had some excellent saves and the defensive pairing of Beedie and Robertson made some timely interceptions. Westdyke forced home another goal to make the score 7 – 0.

Straight from the kick off Farquhar went on a solo run and finished well after sprinting beyond the defence to get Stonehaven on the score sheet. Westdyke scored one final goal to complete the scoring.

DEESIDE 4

STONEHAVEN 3

Stonehaven made the short trip to Banchory for this local derby against Deeside at Silverburn Park.

Deeside made a bright start and opened the scoring when their striker latched on to a through ball and slotted past the advancing Traynor.

Stonehaven pressed for the equaliser and Fotheringham found some space at the edge of the box and fired an unstoppable right foot shot into the top corner for the equaliser.

Both teams were battling well and Traynor had to pull off a number of good saves to keep the score level.

The Deeside keeper then pulled off a great save from Spence’s piledriver from the edge of the box. Deeside forced a corner and their midfielder found some space in the box to head home to retake the lead. Farquhar found some space at the edge of the box from a Porter through ball.

Her shot was well blocked but came back to her and with the aid of a deflection finished low in the bottom corner to equalise for a second time.

Half time 2 – 2

Both teams played well at the start of the second half and the game was end to end. Spence, Johnston, Fotheringham, Porter and Caie were supporting striker Farquhar well in the midfield.

Deeside started to create some good chances but some great saves from the impressive Traynor in goal plus some great blocks by Beedie, Brawley and Robertson kept them out. Deeside hit the post and the ball was cleared by Brawley.

Deeside did score again with about 10 minutes left. Farquhar sprinted clear to equalise for a third time from close range. As the game was closing Deeside pushed forward again.

Caie had a magnificent tackle at the edge of the box but the ball broke to another Deeside player who finished well to complete the scoring. Stonehaven continued to press, looking for another equaliser but was out of time.

The girls played well and kept going right to the final whistle.

BUCHAN GIRLS 5

STONEHAVEN3

Stonehaven made the long on trip to Fetterangus on Saturday to play Buchan Girls.

The pitch was in excellent condition and allowed both teams to play an attacking passing game.

Buchan started brightly and scored the opening goal after around five minutes, bursting through and finishing from close range.

Stonehaven came into the game, got the ball down and started playing their passing game. Spence and Fotheringham were making great runs down either wing, ably supported by Johnston and Farquhar.

A long Traynor goal kick was flicked wide by Farquhar into the path of Spence who finished well from the edge of the box to equalise for Stonehaven.

Beedie, Robertson and Brawley were defending really well and limiting the Buchan girls to shots from distance and any that did get through was well saved by Traynor.

Beedie was causing real panic with her long throws and Spence latched onto one to cross for Farquhar who saw her shot saved well by the Keeper.

Another throw was fumbled by the keeper and Spence was unlucky with the rebound. A Traynor kick out was flicked on by Fotheringham into the path of Johnston who fired in an unstoppable thunderbolt from 25 yards into the bottom corner to put Stonehaven into the lead as half time approached.

Doyle made an excellent block at the edge of her box and her clearance found Fotheringham. She ran in on goal and was unlucky to see her shot just miss the goal as the retreating defender challenged her.

Half time 1 – 2

Buchan started the second half really well and scored within the first few minutes. A shot from distance evaded Traynor and found its way into the bottom corner.

Stonehaven reacted well to this set back and quickly retook the lead.

They forced a throw in on the right level with the Buchan box. Beedie’s long throw found Farquhar in the box. Her shot was blocked, came out to Fotheringham who also seen her shot blocked.

It came back to Farquhar who side stepped the defence to score low into the corner of the Buchan Goal.

Buchan again equalised when a shot from the left deflected off the unlucky Johnston and passed Traynor. Stonehaven pushed on again and firstly Farquhar had a shot deflected just over, then Fotheringham seen the keeper dive at her feet as she was about to shoot and then Spence came close with a shot.

Buchan took the lead through when excellently passing move down their right was finished from inside the box. Stonehaven pushed on looking for the equaliser and forced a series of long Beedie throws and Farquhar and Spence corners but couldn’t find the finish needed.

Johnston came close with a free kick from just outside the box. Doyle almost found the bottom corner with a shot from distance.

In the last minute as Stonehaven continued looking for the equaliser Buchan broke forward and their right winger’s shot found the top corner with an excellent long distance shot which Traynor was really unlucky not to get a hand on.

The referee blew for full time at the restart.
