Girls win cup quarter-final

Colony Park 1

Stonehaven Girls U13 4

Stoney Girls travelled to meet their Inverurie bogey team in the quarter-final of the League Cup and showed great skill and commitment to win.

a sleepy start resulted in Colony snatching a deserved opener after 10 minutes when Traynor got a great block on a strong shot which unluckily for Stoney looped in. However Traynor was rarely troubled after that with only a superb display by Colony’s keeper keeping the score down.

Imray and Johnston were strong in the tackle and Christie read the game well sweeping behind them. Grundy showed her usual composed touches in midfield which blended well with Porter’s attacking flair, Kelly’s energy and Townsend’s all-round game.

It was tricky Laing’s skill which gave Stoney the equaliser as she drew the keeper before crossing to Porter. Porter lobbed a second before Laing followed up on the keeper blocking her first effort to make it three right on half-time.

The second half saw many Stoney chances with only a further solo goal from Kelly. Player of the Match: all the girls have claims but Laing’s touch and energy shaded it.
